Lay(Z)day

We actually snoozed in a bit this morning until 7, so, yeah, a little lazy. But after we got some coffee and cinnamon rolls to-go from a hopping place around the corner, we took advantage of space and wifi at the motel until checkout to get started on things.

And after a short stop at a local cyclery to ask about routes, we settled in at the public library (beautiful, right next to Yampa River and trail) to get those various things -- route making, work duties, and diary-ing--as done as possible.

Steamboat very busy, LOTs of beautiful people, LOTs of shops and restaurants and bikes and inner tubes and swimsuited people enjoying the river. It was a happy sight, even though we only partook for a short bit during a gyros and Greek salad to-go lunch riverside before returning to the library.

We had pre arranged a stay with a local couple through Warm Showers. Tom and Cindy Ptach were / are the most gracious and interesting hosts. They invited us up (and it WAS UP!) to their place for dinner on their patio, and we enjoyed one of the best meals we've had this entire trip, along with great stories shared about cycling, sailing, climbing Mount Rainier, all sorts of travel tales, raising an only son (our boys were born only 3 days apart, the same year, it turned out!), and more. We were having too good a time to remember to take a photo. The nights rest in their comfortable home was much appreciated.

What a great experience. We don't have any other WS visits planned, but we're looking forward to more someday if the hosts will be anything like Tom and Cindy. And we're looking forward to being such hosts ourselves.

Tomorrow... It's an off-route, uncharted (so to speak) route ahead of us. Goodbye to our ACA map and the official Great Divide Trail ...

Day 31, Sunday, 7/27. Steamboat Springs. 4-5 miles total, tooling around near the yampa River and Steamboat library, then to Tom and Cindy's.
