Headwind Hell

Hey everyone,

Just a quick note to say that we're out of the Great Basin after a much hard-fought 58 miles today- -a lot of which was against a headwind. And sidewind. [Big, noisy, disconcerting, open-country winds! some on a busy highway, hard to push through--physically and mentally. Just pooped--AB].

Yesterday's was also 58 Great Basin miles, but not so headwindy, and actually quite quiet by the time we got to the refreshing A&M Reservoir.

[Tuesday (yeah we have a lot to catch up on...), I have all sorts of terms for it! but washboardy roads from hell comes first. Though, again, we had an awesome camp at the end, and one near a natural well --AB].

With an early start from this town of Rawlins, Wyoming, mandatory for tomorrow due to the forecast of increasing winds through the morning [and hotel-sink laundry, provisioning for the next few days, eating, and some work to catch up on--AB], pictures and stories will be forthcoming Sunday or Monday when we plan to be in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We're looking forward to being back in treed country.

And just to keep you on the edge of your seat, did you know that pronghorns speak? Especially when you seem to have set up camp right in the middle of their usual pathway? It's not a whinny like a horse, nor is it a bleat like a sheep (or would that be a goat?). Regardless, a damn peculiar, "what-the-hell-are-you-doing-at-my-watering-hole."

Stay tuned,
ph & ab
